Forty-four trees planted at Soweto school

An event was recently hosted at Tholimfundo Primary School in Protea Glen, Soweto, to celebrate the planting of 44 trees donated by local print management company Cadosi Corporate Consulting. Through the Trees for All programme at Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA), companies are able to donate trees, which are then allocated to schools, clinics, old-age homes, hospices, and many other applicants in different communities.

Present at the event were members of Cadosi Corporate Consulting, FTFA, the principal, deputy principal, members of the School Governing Body, teachers and learners of Tholimfundo Primary School, as well as representatives from the City of Joburg's Environmental Health Department and the Protea Glen community. The event included a lot of festivity and celebration; however, emphasis was placed on educating the learners about the function and importance of trees and looking after the environment in general.

The MD of Cadosi Corporate Consulting, Dean Graham, said: "We are committed to making South Africa a greener country and this means that we have to lead by example. Our team hopes that the 44 trees planted at Tholimfundo Primary School will help the school with its goal of creating an environmentally friendlier learning environment and that the lessons learned about the environment on this day will reach the rest of the community. We are glad that we can be a part of the change that needs to happen with regards to the conserving of the environment."

How we can work together to make a difference

At the event, gratitude was expressed by both FTFA and the principal of Tholimfundo Primary School. Jeminah Mkhize from FTFA spoke about how integral contributions from companies are to the work that is done by FTFA. "Without Cadosi's donation we wouldn't have been able to plant 44 trees at the school. Donations such as these allow us to implement change in many communities in our country. The event was a fine example of how we can work together to make a difference."

The principal, Tumelo Mangakane, acknowledged the support of Cadosi Corporate Consulting, FTFA, the City of Joburg, and everyone who attended the event, and hoped that this will be the beginning of a fruitful relationship of working together to make the school environmentally friendlier.

The learners of Tholimfundo Primary School had the opportunity to participate at the event by offering their views on the importance of trees and looking after the environment.
