Primedia Outdoor sheds light on energy saving

Primedia Outdoor views the national energy crisis seriously and has put mechanisms in place to ensure significant power savings. "Electrical timers, urgently fitted on 200 prime freeway and major arterial sites in Gauteng, is the first in a series of actions we are rolling out to reduce consumption, while still offering advertisers value for their ad spend," S'khumbuzo Nkosi, Primedia Outdoor CEO, announced today, Thursday, 27 March 2008.

"We believe no business operates in a vacuum. As a corporate member of the community, we have obligations to the man on the street and must do our share and more, to reduce consumption."

Primedia Outdoor brainstormed in-house, with advisors, and a significant outcome was to contract electrical engineers who will be involved in the development of all of Primedia Outdoor's new sites from the outset. "Our overall goal is to ensure that our billboard media platforms use minimal power," Nkosi adds.

Maximising power savings, the new electrical timers will cut the power to the billboards at 11pm every night, achieving immediate results. "All responsible corporate citizens should do all in their 'power' to ease the community's burden in terms of the electricity crisis," Nkosi urged.

Investigations into the use of other alternative energy sources, to further conserve electricity, have already commenced, the company announced.
