Stellenbosch wine estate wins SABS award with a perfect rating

Stellenbosch-based Spier Wines has won flawless quality ratings in an audit conducted by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). The audits were conducted against standards set by the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) and the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

The estate was found to be 100% compliant with ISO 22000, the world's highest food safety standard; and BRC4 Grade A, the highest attainable grading under the British Retail Consortium scheme.

Spier Wines MD Neville Carew said, “ISO is without question the leading world authority on industrial standards development; and the BRC a key regulator in the UK retail market. To be rated as fully compliant with both by the SA Bureau of Standards is both an honour and an affirmation of our constant drive for quality.

“With this certification our customers are assured that their support of Spier and Savanha as world class brands is backed by the highest possible quality standards in the crafting of the wines,” he added.

SABS President and ISO Council Member, Martin Kuscus, will present Spier Wines with its certification at a formal handover ceremony on Tuesday 15 April.
