Strolla lights up the Cape Town night

Of course, we chose the rooftop and it was an amazing decision: Cape Town’s hot sun disappearing into the calm ocean with clear blue skies above - why not? With the good hospitality that we received we were offered blankets if we were cold, and a table would be reserved downstairs to accommodate us later in the evening if the cold breeze popped in.

Caffeine and chilli high

Once settled in on the rooftop, we took in the lively activity as the residents in and around Sea Point came for supper and sundowners. Our waitress came to take our beverage order – for those of you who share my love of caffeine it is one of the many great things about Strolla as it serves tantalising Bootleggers Coffee. I’m sure by now you’re wanting to reserve a table. Our waitress chatted to us about the starters and her recommendations on the 'Fill the Gap' menu. I started off with the beef carpaccio, and my guest had chilli poppers, of which there was a good helping, but for those of you who do not enjoy a tang this is probably not a dish you should try.

Medium-rare occasion

As the night progressed and the sun had slipped into the sea, our waitress cleared the table and took our main meal order. Based on our waitress’ recommendation, I chose the steak, which was plated beautifully with chorizo and laid on a bed of potato chips with an egg on top. My guest had the pulled pork risotto, which is an amazing dish for cold Cape Town winter days. As our food arrived we decided to move inside as the chilly sea air started to creep in.

We were then seated inside the soft Victoria-styled area and enjoyed our main courses. We noticed that Strolla was a child-friendly restaurant and has a play area that is clearly visible through a glass window. Strolla has set up an area with bean bags, a PlayStation and a seated area with Wi-Fi connection. Mums and dads are able to enjoy the amazing ambiance and food in a child-friendly environment.

Flavour eruption

Finally, let’s not forget the dessert, which ended the night off perfectly. We ordered the chocolate volcano with orange marmalade ice cream and strawberry jam - what a combination! We sat in silence as we took the first bite into the decadent cake oozing with creamy chocolate - by this time you can only imagine the number of Bootlegger Coffees we were on. Being a coffee lover often determines whether or not I’ll return to a restaurant, and Strolla will definitely see me again.
