The Loeries call for designers

The Loerie Awards 2005 is calling for more entries from the interior design and architectural communities. Loerie Awards managing director, Andrew Human, says brand-based architecture, as well as interior or exterior design, is eligible for entry in the 'Three Dimensional & Environmental Design' sub-category of Design.

"This means the awards are open to architects, interior designers, decorators, landscape artists, and environmental designers, who have played a major role in interpreting and reflecting a company or brand as a physical manifestation."

The Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg walked off with a Grand Prix in the Design Category in 2003.

"All environments or physical elements - be they retail, educational, hospitality-orientated, etcetera - are key components in communication design and are eligible for entry, as long as they make a contribution to a brand's equity," says Human.

Examples of work that could be entered are:

  • Environmental graphics (signage, shop front, show stand, outdoor, guerrilla, etc.).
  • Interior design (retail, office, restaurant, show stand, etc).
  • Signage programmes (informative, directional etc).
  • Package design.
  • Product design.
  • Architecture (contributing to brand equity).

Anyone involved in the creation, production or publication of the work may submit an entry. All work must 'come into being' for the first time between 1 June 2004 and 31 July 2005. The deadline for entries is 31 July 2005. All entry information is available on the website, www.theloerieawards.co.za.
