Century City gets lifestyle magazine

Century City, described as Cape Town's largest combined commercial, retail, residential and leisure precinct, will have its own lifestyle magazine, City, published by COSA Communications. Currently publishing B2B titles such as RISKSA, TAXtalk and INmag, this is the publisher's first foray into consumer titles.

Andy Mark, publisher and editor-in-chief of City, says that the precinct has experienced rapid year-on-year growth of both its commercial and residential nodes - even during the recession - and that the time is right to launch a title that talks exclusively to this audience. "With over 55 000 people living and working in the area, as well as over 1.7 million feet traffic per month, Century City has fast become Cape Town's unofficial second city."

Audience-specific publications

He adds that Century City is an enormously vibrant community with events, launches, markets and functions happening on a daily, and sometimes even hourly, basis. "High quality, audience-specific publications such as this that tackle issues relevant to the community in which they operate are becoming more and more popular. This can be seen around the country, notably in precincts with existing lifestyle-focused titles such as Sandton City in Gauteng and the Gateway and Umhlanga Ridge in KwaZulu-Natal."

The magazine team is working closely with the Century City Property Owners' Association (CCPOA), which will handle distribution to every residential front door, business reception area and hotel bedroom in the vicinity.

Chris Blackshaw, CEO of the CCPOA, attributes its success to its central location, its safe and secure environment as well as its constantly evolving infrastructure including the new railway station, which was used to great effect during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. "The area is perfectly located next to the N1 highway and is approximately 10 km from the Cape Town CBD, the Cape Town International Airport as well as the northern, southern and West Coast suburbs."

The retail heart and social hub for the area, Canal Walk Shopping Centre, is also a huge draw card, attracting more than 21 million visitors a year. When fully developed, it will be the second largest business node in Cape Town, only slightly smaller than the entire Cape Town CBD, V&A and Granger Bay areas.
