Total introduces Evolution to its premium diesel fuel

Although minimum dosages of Evolution have already been added to Total's premium diesel (50 parts per million), Total has recently decided to increase the dosage, resulting in additional benefits for motorists driving diesel-powered vehicles.
Total Evolution diesel, which is suitable for normally and turbo-powered engines, and direct and indirect injection diesel engines, has a range of performance and environmental benefits, including:

  • Longer engine life, due to less corrosion and wear in pistons and cylinder liners, caused by sulphuric acid formed during combustion
  • Better engine performance, because of cleaner and more efficient combustion characteristics
  • Improved fuel efficiency
  • Lower harmful soot formation during combustion, extending the service life of engine oil
  • More efficient operation by diesel pumps and injectors
  • Reduced sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxide emissions
  • Reduced exhaust odours
  • Fewer black smoke emissions

"Total Evolution diesel is the result of our commitment to reducing poisonous gas emissions into the air, in the process benefiting all of us and our planet. We are very excited to be extending the Evolution additive to our premium diesel and playing a proactive role in ensuring a cleaner planet for us all," said Total's marketing manager, Reina Cullinan.

She added: "What makes the Evolution additive so revolutionary is that we are able to offer these benefits without having to compromise on the performance that comes with using our fuels.

"In fact, apart from the distinct benefits that Evolution confers on our petrol and diesel products, we have also managed to go 10 times better than the current legal maximum sulphur content of 0.05 percent, to 0.005 percent - meaning a drastic reduction in emissions, without losing any of the performance of Total Evolution diesel 50ppm."
