    2005 Roger Garlick Award finalists announced

    The Advertising Media Association of South Africa (AMASA) announced the 2005 Roger Garlick Award finalists yesterday, with entries increasing by an exceptional 80% above 2004.

    AMASA accredits this phenomenal increase to a number of factors including the introduction of media categories and the newly instated AMASA Gold Awards as well as the innovative advertising campaign encouraging entries and raising awareness for the awards created by Cinevation.

    In 2005 the judges were looking for innovative media ideas, campaigns or stunts that engendered target market receptivity as well as creative use of media.

    The 2005 Roger Garlick Finalists are:

    In the Category: Best Use of Television

    • Sasko Flour: Margaret Ashwin of Media Max and Glen James of The Old Shanghai Firecracker Factory.
    • Five Roses Tea: Elana de Swardt of Brand Genetics and Linda Gibson of SABC Sports Sponsorship.
    • First National Bank One Account: Vicki Trehaeven of First National Bank, Ulric Charteris of FCB Johannesburg and Linda Botha of MediaCompete.

    In the Category: Best Use of Mixed / Multiple Media

    • Kenza Health - BioBust: Doris Ledgerwood of OMD Media and Brad Reilly of Net#work BBDO
    • First National Bank One Account: Vicki Trehaeven of First National Bank, Ulric Charteris of FCB Johannesburg and Linda Botha of MediaCompete.

    In the Category: Special Events / Stunts - including "never used before media"

    • Simba Ghost Pops: Clive Evans of Net#work BBDO
    • Dynamic Health "Skinny Mirror" promotion: Karen Bailey and Marisa Torrani of Cinevation.

    The winner of the Roger Garlick Award will be announced at the prestigious Ad Focus banquet on the 9th of May 2005. This year's winner will be attending the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival compliments of the 2005 Roger Garlick sponsor Oracle Airtime Sales.
