Castle Lager celebrates Heritage Day by breaking Guinness Book of Records

The record it needed to beat was 2311 people and set and verified on 25 September 2011 in Chiba, Japan.

It created the platforms around the country, giving the public access to great facilities, celebrated with beer, entertainment and a braai, an activity that unites all South Africans together.

Beating the record

It successfully achieved its objective with a new record of 2353 individuals braaing simultaneously, set and confirmed by Guinness World Records adjudicator, Rob Molloy who flew into the country from the UK to verify the official result.

"I am delighted to announce that Castle Lager has successfully entered the Guinness World Records with this wonderfully executed event. This great country is steeped in culture and tradition and it is fitting that a record should be broken for a national pastime that is synonymous with every South African," said Molloy.

"We are delighted that we have broken a Guinness World Record, it is indicative of our country's ability to come together and unite in true South African style. We have definitely created history over a braai and our great South African beer in the process," said Alastair Hewitt, GM of Castle Lager and sponsorships at SAB.
