Learners invited to KZN air festival

Organisers are inviting schools from as far south as Amanzimtoti to Stanger in the north and Pietermaritzburg inland, in an effort to expose as many youths from the greater Durban area as possible to an industry that is often overlooked. Schools will nominate their top 20 learners in Grade 10, 11 and 12 in Maths, Science and Geography to attend. The day will be split into three sessions accommodating 500 learners in each session.

This development programme builds on initiatives from the 2013 KZN Winter Air Tour and has now become a fully-fledged and integral part of the KZN Air Events programme. This has been made possible with the help of Federal Air, Siyandiza and Women in Aviation, amongst other contributors.

Access to funding

Justin Scott, head of KZN Air Events Development, expects great results from this initiative. "These young people will be exposed to some of the aviation industry's leading role players. This experience will help them realise that a career in aviation is very achievable." Learners interested in a career in aviation will also be informed about access to funding through KZN Air Events' various development partners and programmes.

"Seeing the world's best aerobatic pilots and aircraft is sure to create some excitement about working in the industry," said Scott. Some learners will also have the chance to take a flip in a plane during the day.
