Station kicks off 21st birthday celebrations

To celebrate its historical milestone of turning 21 years old in 2007, Metro FM is preparing to swing into three months of high-energy parties, great prizes and more. The celebrations include Metro FM giving away R1 million to one lucky listener, hosting a gala event to honour past and present DJs as well as bringing to South Africa the queen of R&B and soul, Mary J Blige.

“We've finally got the key to the door and we're going to throw one long big party to celebrate turning 21 with our listeners,” says Metro FM station manager Matona Ntshona.

Kicking off the birthday celebrations on Saturday 1 September is the Metro FM/Jack Daniels Style Drive, which will culminate in one Metro FM listener driving away in style on a Harley Davidson, courtesy of Jack Daniels.

Listeners also have the chance to attend the first three Style Drive birthday celebration parties in Gauteng on 1 September at SkeemGP on the East Rand, 8 September at Ramsgate Square Café in Pretoria and 22 September at The Back Room in Soweto.
Before each party a cavalcade of Hummers and Harleys will descend into each area, with Metro FM DJs signing autographs and giving away merchandise, as well as VIP tickets to the evenings parties. In addition they will be carrying with them a giant birthday card that will be sent off to Jack Daniels in Tennessee, US.

Later in the evening the official Style Drive party will get into full swing.

The Metro FM/Jack Daniels Style Drive Parties will also be heading nationwide.
