The journey that brought these two passing ships together started with a fortuitous meeting in the Spring of 2006, consolidated by their love for all things deep and soulful. But it was only until the Summer of that same year, that work on what was later to become a full-length album began. Inspired by everything Gospel from Mahalia Jackson to Lisa McClendon, and House legends Larry Heard and Frankie Knuckles, to Blaze and Kerry Chandler, Faith (the Preacher's daughter) and Charlie Gordon (son of a Rock n' Roll drummer), got down to create what became more of a journey of discovery, than hours spent cocooned in the studio. They implicitly knew that for them, it had become more of a question of reflecting what was being discovered, than engineering moods, atmospheres, sounds and colours in a lab, and then taking this creation to hearts, souls, and minds.
The album reflects and documents the experiences and relational intricacies of two souls on a journey of inner discovery in the urban upward mobility of the 21st century. A journey through the deep search for meaning and certainty in an uncertain contemporary reality.
Delite's music has been likened to Chicago house legends Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers, 'Lil Louis, Godfather of House Dj Frankie Knuckles and Detroit techno pioneer Carl Craig, to legendary New York producer Jellybean Benitez (Jellybean Soul), and Jay Denes (Blue 6), Dave Warrin (Central Living) along with star vocalist Lisa Shaw of Lovetronic fame, and has been described as "very cool" by Chicago House music pioneer Rodney Bakerr.
Delite's debut release "Singles", is indeed fast becoming one of the soundtracks to cosmopolitan Cape Town. The sound of a new voice emerging from the South African urban music landscape. A voice paying homage to the past, but steadfastly gazing to the future. And they want you to know that you're invited, the views apparently are breath-taking.
