Peter Alkema is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for FNB Business. With more than 15 years experience in IT, Peter has been a key driver behind developing and implementing innovative IT solutions in CRM, procurement, finance and HR. His professional career spans various IT leadership roles across consulting and lines of business mainly in financial services.

Prior to FNB Business, Peter headed up the IT function for the FNB CFO and support segment. Here he was responsible for driving the technology journey, oversight of major IT programmes and renewal of core IT systems within the group.

Peter also leads the FNB CodeFest event, which is an annual coding marathon that encourages IT developers to build breakthrough fintech solutions that improves banking products and services for customers.

He also contributes to industry by speaking regularly at industry conferences on IT leadership trends and technology themes in the banking sector.

Peter holds an MSc, mechanical engineering degree from Wits University and is currently busy with his PhD at Wits University researching agile software development in large organisations. He is married with five children, has hiked all over South Africa, worked as a youth television presenter, learnt to parachute and wrote his first book, "Woodworking for everyone" in 2014.
