As part of World Water Day on Tuesday, 22 March, GrandWest employees cleaned the Elsies River Canal. Valhalla Secondary School and Bellville High School students also participated in the clean-up. World Water Day is an initiative of the United Nations (UN). It was first observed in 1992 to highlight the value of water.

Retailer Faithful to Nature held the inaugural Force of Nature event at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre on 12 May. The event was aimed at inspiring broader talks and action around the plastic crisis and environmental conservation. It featured four inspiring women - Xoli Fuyani (environmental education project manager at Earthchild Project), Yola Mgogwana (high school student and activist), Aaniyah Omardien (founder and director of The Beach Co-op) and Robyn Smith (Faithful to Nature founder) - leading the charge in sustainability. Artist Dbongz Mahalathi is the winner of The Glass Recycling Company's (TGRC) Art for Glass Graffiti Competition. TGRC created the competition to draw the attention of Johannesburg residents to the numerous glass banks in the city. The company's shift to more environmentally-friendly packaging falls in line Mars Incorporated's Sustainability in a Generation strategy. To create awareness around the new packaging, Orbit has also launched the Pledge to Plant campaign under the banner #JustOneThing. The clean up also served as the handover of 30 Qhubeka bicycles to a group of youth, women, and men from the Emaplatini Heritage Site who spend their spare time voluntarily cleaning up and monitoring illegal dumping zones....
