The commission is conducting a Transport Market Inquiry into the land based public passenger transport sector to understand the general state of competition.

The commission said it has reason to believe that there are features in the land based public passenger transport sector that may prevent, distort or restrict competition.

“The focus will include price setting mechanisms, price regulation, route allocation, allocation of operational subsidies, transport planning and transformation in terms of ownership patterns in the land based public passenger transport industry,” the commission said.

The hearings will be held at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg from Monday until Wednesday. They will be held in Pretoria on Thursday and Friday at Manhattan Hotel on Scheiding Street.
