KwaZulu-Natal's tertiary education options are expanding with the addition of the South African College of Applied Psychology's (SACAP's) new campus in Berea, Durban - the private institution's fourth physical campus nationally.

“With its new 21st Century learning campus, SACAP is highlighting the vital role that private institutions are playing to increase access to higher education while the capacity of public universities falls short of meeting demand,” says SACAP CEO, Lance Katz. The greater Durban metropolitan area with its population of 3.8 million is serviced by only two public universities. By contrast, Pretoria’s population of 2.1 million has access to five public universities.

“In South Africa, private tertiary education institutions, such as SACAP are required to meet exactly the same standards of regulation and accreditation, so our growing student body is guaranteed of a quality education.”

The college, established more than 20 years ago, provides students with opportunities to launch a wide range of careers focused on understanding human behaviour and building human capacity. These may include careers as psychologists, counsellors, coaches, HR practitioners and many others in related fields.

SACAP's educational philosophy includes deliberately keeping its classes small and intimate in order to maximise connection and integration as an integral part of the highly interactive learning experience. So important is this philosophy, that it is specifically reflected in the design and architecture of the flagship Durban campus which is located on Peter Mokaba Road in Morningside, Berea.

Admissions to SACAP Durban campus opened in October 2018. Three Bachelors degrees are on offer: Bachelor of Applied Social Science (majoring in Psychology and Counselling), Bachelor of Applied Social Science (majoring in Human Resource Management and Psychology) and Bachelor of Social Science Honours (Psychology); as well as a Higher Certificate in Counselling & Communication Skills.
